What is Travel Diaries?

Travel Diaries is a collection of my adventures on my travels. This is a place-based series around the holiday travel experience. Yes, there are pubs and beer. Football might feature. But the theme of this collection is holidays – and what the places I visit are like, who I meet along the way, things I eat and drink – the full on cultural experience of travel.

Why am I writing Travel Diaries?

This is a new series that I will be building as the course of my life shifts from being centred around football and pubs to the wider scope of European travel and adventures. My blog has been heavily weighted towards football and pubs as these have been a hugely important part of my life for in excess of 30 years. Whilst pubs in particular are still important to me, despite a recent shift to alcohol-free beer, I have grown to understand that it is the travel itself that I love most of all. I love the adventuring aspect of leaving the house, getting on a train or plane and exploring somewhere I have never been before. I didn’t travel as a child and it was not until I got into football that I began venturing further afield. Now, having done pretty much the whole of the 92 football league grounds, my wanderlust is taking me further afield, as I tick off European countries. It is these adventures that I will be charting in my Travel Diaries. I’ve included a few Travel Diaries that don’t fit in other sections of this blog. But my Great Balkans Road Trip is the first major series within my Travel Diaries collection. I hope there will be many more to come as I head off on further adventures.

Where’s Next?

The Great Balkans Road Trip is my summer series and will continue through to the end of August 2026. I’m planning trips to Vienna and Norway. Travel Diaries will follow shortly after those trips. If you have any recommendations for Vienna, Oslo, Hardanger or Bergen, please let me know.
